∙ 12y agoThe secondary winding of the distribution transformer has two terminals; one is connected to earth and is called the neutral terminal; the other has a nominal potential of 230 V with respect to the neutral, and is called the line terminal. Loads are connected in parallel with the line conductor and the neutral conductor. So, the neutral acts as a zero point of reference for the line potential, and provides the load current's return path back to the source transformer.
