Click on the label for the row you want, then hold 'Ctrl' and click on any extra row you want. You can also press the Shift key and the spacebar to select the current row or rows, if cells from more than one row are already selected.

The simplest and most common way is to click on a cell with the mouse, and then while holding the left mouse button, cells can be selected by dragging across the cells. It can also be done by using the keyboard. You can press and hold the Shift key and then use the cursor keys, which are the ones with the arrows, to move the selection and select cells. The F8 key can also be used to turn a selection mode on and off. This is the least common way of selecting cells and one that many people don't know about. It is useful for selecting cells that are not together, especially for people who have difficulty using a mouse.

Click on any cell to select it. You can click in the name box (left side of the formula bar, just above the worksheet) and type in the cell address if you prefer that. You can also select a range reference by entering the first cell, a colon, and the last cell to select a range.

Click and drag to select a range of cells. Click on a cell, then CTRL-click to select several non-contiguous cells. Put cursor on the first cell you want and then press the F8 key and then use the arrow keys to select cells around it, with the first cell being the anchor. Press F8 again to stop.

Selecting cells in Excel is the process of highlighting them, usually with a view to doing something with them, like format them or delete their contents or copy something into them. Selecting can be done in several ways, both with the mouse and keyboard. Go to the first cell you want. Then press and hold the left mouse button and start to drag out over the cells you want to select. Alternatively, press and hold one of the shift keys and press the arrow keys in the direction you want to select cells. The F8 key can also be used to select cells, in conjunction with the arrow keys. It can turn selection on or off, having the same effect as holding the shift key. The Page Up, Page Down, Home and End keys can also be used to do selections.

Normally you select cells that are together. Sometimes you will want to select cells that are in separate parts of the spreadsheet, what are known as non-contiguous cells. If you select the first group of cells in the ways already mentioned, when you go to select a separate set, you lose the selection on the first set. To prevent this happening, you press and hold the Ctrl key, when you select the second set or any subsequent sets. It can also be done with the F8 key by turning the selection mode on or off, though it is far easier with the Ctrl key.
