It's rough, like sandpaper

It is tough and feels like an emery board when it is dry. In fact, it can be used like a nail file when it is dried, something that was done in the 1970's. Another recycling project that was abandoned.

Sharks have very rough skin that protects them from injury. It's covered in tiny ridges that are actually tiny teeth. A shark can cause wounds of it brushes against a human or another fish.
