Lungs contain avleoli ( little air sacs) where oxygen is relased into capillaries(veins that carry blood). The blood becomes oxygenated and then travels to the heart to be pumped throughout the body.
They supply the body with oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.

∙ 7y agoThe lungs are the site of gas exchange, meaning that oxygen will enter your blood and carbon dioxide will leave your blood in the lungs. Oxygen is needed to generate energy in cells and carbon dioxide is a waste product that can acidify the blood if not expelled.
