∙ 14y agoBirthstones are gems that are 'assigned' to each month of the year. They represent that month. I.E. If you were born in January, your birthstone for that month (according to the Modern list) would be Garnet.
There are also birthstones according to Zodiac signs. Zodiac signs cover a span of one month, though spread over two separate months. Each month has two Zodiac signs.
For example, if you were born in January before the 20th, your Zodiac sign would be Capricorn (which covers the dates of Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) and the stone for Capricorn would be Ruby. If you were born after January 20th, your Zodiac sign would be Aquarius (which covers Jan 21 - Feb 19) and the stone for Aquarius would be Garnet.
Birthstones also carry meanings, depending on their origins. The origins for birthstones are many, including Biblical, Indian, Tibetan, and the Tiffany's Co. These meanings can be used as advice, descriptions and so forth.

my birthday is the 4th of June so therefore my birth stone is a pearl. So it makes sense when someone wants there birth stone on a ring.....i like pearls!
