Technically, the Phoenix was from Persian mythology, but it is used many, many times in Greek mythology as a lot of those countries piggybacked off of one another's ideas. The phoenix was supposedly a large bird the size of a horse, and each one had many different, beautiful, complex designs on them. Each one was black or red, with the opposite color used for the designs. When needed, the phoenix was able to turn itself into a bird completely made out of fire. It could lite anything on fire, and could pass through objects like fire.
