Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, believed that Jesus had taught some of the greatest moral principles, but that the four evangelists had added false stories of miracles and claims that Jesus was divine. He sought to promote the morals of the ancient philosophers, Jewish ethics and the teachings of Jesus. Jefferson edited the four Gospels to produce a thin book that is now called "The Jefferson Bible", literally creating it with a razor and paste. This included the philosophical and moral teachings of Jesus but omitted all claims to miracles or to his divinity.

I am brave. I am determined. I am able. I am out going. I am Thomas Jefferson. But most of all, I am notable.

I was born on April 14th, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. My birthplace was Shadwell, a family birthplace. My dad, Peter Jefferson and my mom, Jane Jefferson, had just had their 3rd child. In the end, I had 6 sisters and 1 brother.

I began my education with a tutor, and then when I was 14, I entered the school of James Maury. In 1762 I graduated from the college of William and Mary. My education was important in my life. I knew that if I wanted to be successful, I had to be smart.

My career as an author started when I wrote The Declaration of Independence. But that job shattered when I accepted to be a delegate to Second Continental congress. Two wars took place in my life. The War of 1812 and The Revolutionary War. I was known as a revolutionary leader in the 1760's and 1770's.

In 1769, I built the house I am famous for, Monticello. I took a break from my occupation in 1772, and on January 1st, I married Martha Skelton. Later I had two daughters, Martha and Mary. Then I was elected governor of Virginia at the age of 36. That's when the government got interested in meeting me.

In 1785, I became U.S. Secretary of State. 4 years later I was appointed minister to France. When I was 54 I became vice president until I was 58. Next came the key of my life. I became president! I served two terms. In 1802, I ended my career. But even though I ended my American job, I founded the university of Virginia in 1819.

Although I was a president, I was not the only president alive in my life. George Washington was there. So was John Adams, James Madison, James Monroe, and John Quincy Adams. They were all part of another's president's history and I'm thankful they were.

The day I died was a sad day. But at the same time, it was also very happy. It was July 4th, 1826. That morning I had gotten a letter from my dear friend, John Adams. After I was vice president for him I ended my connection with him. But years later we got back together through letters. The two of us died on the same day.

Adam's last words were "Thomas Jefferson survives." But that statement was not true. I had died two hours earlier. As I said, I was a happy day. But I was only happy because it was the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Even though I died on that day, I was happy. I had got hear from my friend and it was the anniversary of the work I did with him and Benjamin Franklin on The Declaration of Independence.
