∙ 11y agoThe material of spandex, since it is a stretchy material, allows for a better range in movement and also for better comfort. With longer shorts or all shorts in general, your movement is limited. In volleyball one must jump, dive, sprawl, bend, etc. so the best material for that type of movement is spandex. Lastly, when one is blocking at the net, the last thing they want is to give a point to the other team because their shorts brushed the net, so the less material moving about the better. And again they are extremely comfortable
