A capybara, which is indigenous to South America, is the largest living rodent in the world. In Spanish, a capybara is called carpincho, but the name "capybara" is derived from a Greek word which means "water hog." Capybaras are semi-aquatic and come with slightly webbed feet. I've heard of capybaras as pets, because they are gentle animals, but they are also used for food. I've read about capybaras and they remind me of giant guinea pigs, except that guinea pigs do NOT belong in the water, lot.so what do they eat?
There are several characteristics of a capybara. They are the largest rodent in the world, they can stay under water up to five minutes, they have slightly webbed feet, they are strictly vegetarian- melons, squash, bark, grass, plants from the bottom of rivers, and grass make up their diet. Their Indian name means "grasses master" which is fitting by the look of their diet. Nothing really unusual about them.
Some unusual things about the capybara are:
one adaptation of the capybara is its webbed feet, they help it swim and another it that it can survive underwater for 5 minutes B-) :)
Some unusual things about the capybara are:They are rodents. Though they are as large as a pig, they are rodentsThey mate under water which is unusual for any land animal
