Compared to other similar jet fighters they are cheap, easy to operate and quite long lasting.
F16 is the most common western fighter jet.
It will fly approximately twice the speed of sound.
An F-16's max take-off weight is 42,300 pounds
Jet fighters are called JET fighter because they all have jet engines. Most jet engines, like the ones used on all modern jet fighters, do not have propellers. The jet engine pretty much does the job of conventional propellers. While propeller would generate a huge amount of thrust for the fighters (some jet engines on non-fighter aircrafts have propellers), propellers are not very effective at higher speeds. Once you hit higher speeds, there's a whole other level of complications with stability and fluid flow that gets added to the problem that propellers are simply not meant for. So if you want a fast, supersonic jet, propellers are not an option. Jet engines (like turbojets and turbofans) is currently the way to go for fighter aircrafts.
Many types of engines were used in many fighter bombers. Possibly the most famous ever was the WW2 Mosquito which used Merlin engines
Depends what type of fighter jet it is
the ammount of fuel a fighter jet uses depends on they type of aircraft EG. how many engines, how big they are ect. for example the SR-71A blackbird uses around 3.6 kilalitres of fuel an hour
Jet engines for war planes took a major leap forward during WW II. Both British and German aircraft engineers were working on this type of engine. As it turned out, the German ME 262 became the first successful fighter plane that had a substantial advantage in speed over conventional gasoline driven engines. Jet propulsion continued to advance after WW II. New jet fighter airplanes have tremendous speed and maneuverability. This also carried over to commercial cargo and passenger aircraft.
Messerschmitt AG invented the first fighter jet.
The jet engines used jet fuel, not gasoline as the 6 main engines did.
A fighter jet can be faster than the speed of sound.
