Laser is non diverging one and monochromatic. It is coherent and hence highly intense. So laser could be sent even to reach moon's surface and get it back reflected. So distance of astronomical objects could be found.

∙ 14y agoThe most important feature of laser light when compared to an ordinary light is that the waves coming out of the laser source will be coherent. This coherency would increase the intensity to an extreme level. So the radiations will not diverge and they go in a straight path without losing its intensity even to the longer distances such as the distance between the moon and earth. So by using laser we can measure the distance between the moon and the earth. Even drilling with smallest dia is possible. Cutting steel plates and rod is very easy using laser beam.
