Pi is an irrational number, and is the circumference of the unit circle. It's a neat number to use in all sorts of circumstances.
pi is irrational.
Pi never ends. That's why it's so special.
the number is that you use for pi is 3.14 the number is that you use for pi is 3.14
Circumference = Pi * D (the diameter) Therefore D = Circumference / Pi Naturally all circles have a circumference, but if this value is known then we can find the diameter by dividing this value by Pi. (Note: Pi is a special number and we can only ever use an approximation to its value.)
Just divide 56 by pi. Pi is approximate 3.14; or use the "pi" key on your scientific calculator.Just divide 56 by pi. It is PI day
The date can be written as 3.14.15 which are the first digits of pi. That can only happen once every hundred years.
Pi was not 'made'. Pi was a quantity which mathematicians discovered. By experimenting, they found that there was a very special RELATIONSHIP between the Diameter of every circle, and it's perimeter, or Circumference. They found that the Circumference is ALWAYS exactly 3.14159 times the size of the Diameter of the circles. They decided hundreds of years ago, to call this special quantity 'Pi' , which is a Greek letter. Much later, the mathematicians used a special type of mathematics, called 'calculus' to find out the very, very, precise value of 'Pi'. For most purposes , it is good enough to use the quantity 3.142 and still get a fairly accurate answer.
people use pi to find the circumference of a circle.
Pi is the number you have to use to solve many circle equations. If you want to find the area of a circle, use radius squared times pi. For the circumference, use diameter times pi.
To find the diameter of a circle, you use pi to find the radius, because the middle of a circle is pi.
You need the formula circumference = pi x diameter pi = 3.14.. This is by the way the definition of the special number pi.
