Spiritual hunger is the emotional sensation, a kind of yearning, which tells us that all the physical things and pleasures of this world are not enough, and they leave the soul unsatisfied. This feeling is alluded to in Kohellet (Ecclesiastes) 6:7, which states that "All the labor of man is for his mouth (for food), and yet the appetite is not filled." In Hebrew, the word translated as "appetite" is actually "soul." God has given us this feeling in order to give us a motivation to seek Him.

This hunger and thirst reflects a deep yearning for a life aligned with ethical principles and a close relationship with God, suggesting that such desires are inherently positive and will be rewarded.
Jesus fed the 5,000 to demonstrate His compassion and to address their immediate physical needs before teaching them about the spiritual sustenance of the Eucharist.
