this is a top secret U.S. Military base. It was only recently that the US Government even acknowledged its existence.
What exactly goes on there is extremely classified. Most probably, it is used by our nation to test and develop new technologies.
Examples of known projects that were possibly tested at Area 51 include the SR-71, U-2, B-2 and F-117 stealth and spy aircraft.
There have been rumors since the 60's that perhaps the New Mexico alien crash victims are being stored and studied there, but i highly doubt it.
Just know that it's important enough that the government doesn't want you to know what goes on there for national security reasons.
