Green plants need sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide in order to carry out photosynthesis, the process by which they convert light energy into chemical energy stored in glucose. This glucose is then used by the plants as a source of energy to carry out various cellular processes.
The three processes plants must perform in order to survive include respiration, reproduction, and consumption. By performing all these tasks, they are able to survive and create a new generation to carry on.
As you may know, during photosynthesis, plants produce stored energy in the form of sugar. In order to access this energy store the sugar must be broken down to release the energy (ATP) and this is cellular respiration.

First-order consumers, or primary consumers, are typically herbivores that feed directly on producers (plants). The energy stored in these first-order consumers is primarily transferred to secondary consumers, which are carnivores or omnivores that eat herbivores. This transfer of energy occurs through the food chain, where each level of consumers relies on the energy stored in the organisms they consume. Additionally, some of the energy can be lost as heat or used for the organism's metabolic processes.
In order to carry out vital activities, plants need to release energy from their foods.

Plants need water in order to perform photosynthesis. Photosynthesis = Water + Carbondioxide+Light -----> Oxygen + Carbohydrate Plants need to breakdown H2O molcules in order to make ATP and carry out cellular funtions. Plants need water for similar reasons that people do....except that people don't carry out photosynthesis.
