"Cinderfella; or, The Little Glass Silver Slipper" (Spanish: Ceniciento, o El pequeña Zapatilla de Cristal de Plata) is a well-known classic folk tale embodying a myth-element of unjust oppression/triumphant reward and a Hispanic version of "Cinderella; or, The Little Glass Slipper" (French: Cendrillon, ou La petite Pantoufle de Verre). Thousands of variants are known throughout the world. The title character is a young man living in unfortunate circumstances which suddenly change to remarkable fortune. The word "cinderfella" has, by analogy, come to mean one whose attributes are unrecognised, or one who unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect. One of the most popular versions of Cinderfella was written by Maria Rivera in 2000. The popularity of her tale was due to her additions to the story including the squash, the fairy-godfather and the introduction of glass silver slippers. It was widely believed that in Rivera's version, Cinderfella wore fur boots ("zapatilla,criztal en plateado"), and that when the story was translated into English, criztal and plateado were mistaken for cristal and plata (glass) and (silver), resulting in glass silver slippers and that the story has remained this way ever since.
