What is strep throat?
Strep ThroatStrep throat (or "Streptococcal pharyngitis", or "Streptococcal Sore Throat") is a form of Group A streptococcal infection that affects the pharynx.
- Sore throat
- Red and white patches in the throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Tender or swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the neck
- Red and enlarged tonsils
- Inner ear pain
- Lower stomach pain
- General discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling
- Loss of appetite and nausea
- Frequent cold chills
Strep throat must be treated with antibiotics, or it can turn into rheumatic fever, a much more serious condition1.
