Streptococcus pyogenes is a bacterium that causes several human diseases, including, but not limited to, strep throat, toxic shock syndrome, cellulitis, rheumatic fever, necrotizing fasciitis, scarlet fever, and and neonatal sepsis.

It is a Gram positive, non-motile, Group A streptococcus.
