In my opinion, Massachusetts Maritime Academy is the best. I say this not only because I go there, but because of the long process I went through when it came to choosing which academy to go to. I was accepted to SUNY, Maine, Mass, Texas A&M and Cal Maritime, basically, every schol I applied to. I visited them all except Cal, I decided it was too far from home and the least prestigious of the five. Being from New Jersey, my instincts pointed towards SUNY- close enough to home to visit on weekends and such, but not too close. However, after visiting, I did not like the campus, and later came to find out that SUNY may soon get liscensing taken away from them. Apparantly, too many of their grads have gone into the field too inexperienced. Maine was in east jabib, rainy, ugly, and was half regimented which I thought would be weird if you decided to go license track and had to be in the regiment while the person next to you got to live the regular college life. When i got to Mass, I automatically felt a sense of home- its right on the cape cod canal and you can see the bourne bridge from campus. Minutes from cape beaches, the academy is fully regimented (which is annoying as a freshman) but as you work your way to higher years, you gain responsibility, learn leadership, and most of all become more experienced than any other maritime academy cadets. Many businesses will choose mass maritime cadets over all others because of the fact that we are the only existing fully regimented academy in the United States (other than of course the military academies). MMA has a Navy Student Inscentive Program (SIP) for cadets who are interested in becoming Naval officers post graduation. It also offers an army ROTC program along with the Coast Guard MARAD (Maritime Graduate) program, again for graduates who would like to become officers in the Coast Guard. All in all, there are many inscentives for students that go to Mass Maritime, and a whole lot of money in store for its graduates. A big saying at MMA is "You can either party for 4 years and work the rest of your life, or work for 4 years and party the rest of your life." I know what i chose to do, which is why I am a proud student of Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
