The eight-spoke wheel symbol for Buddhism is called the Dharmachakra. It is sometimes called the Wheel of Life or the Wheel of Dharma. It represents the Dharma, the Buddha's teachings of the path to enlightenment. The actual number of spokes sometimes differ and mean different things.

8 spoke wheel - represents the Noble Eightfold path.

12 spoke wheel - represents the Twelve Laws of Dependent Origination

24 spoke wheel - represents the Twelve Laws of Dependent Origination and the

Twelve Laws of Dependent Termination.

31 spoke wheel - represents the 31 realms of existence.

The wheel represents the eight main practices (Noble Eight-fold Path) that enables a person to see the true nature of the universe, including oneself. Through realisation that all worldly things are subjected to change, including one's mind and body (energy and matter), Enlightenment (Bodhi) is attained; endless rebirth thereby ended. Where there is birth, there will be death. Ending rebirth through Bodhi, one gains Nibbana (Nirvana). The Buddha describes Nibbana as Beyond the Worldly (beyond space-time continuum), Highest Happiness, Freedom, Unique etc.
