The Canadian Horse is at its best as the general-purpose horse for the Canadian farm or ranch. It's versatility is wide, but it specialises in generality, as boring as it sounds. It is generally considered a warm-blood, but in my own experience, it is quite an interesting horse in that it has the coolness of a draught horse, but a little more the look of a stock horse. This is all because the original Canadian Horse, which was bred from Spanish and French breeds sent to French North America by Louis XIV, was needed for all purposes.

It can be used for racing and it is actually quite good (Norther Dancer was a Canadian Horse) but they are rarely better than the thoroughbreds. Northern Dancer was a thoroughbred, out of Natalma, by Nearctic, and a grandson of Native Dancer. He was however, from Canada, but he was a thoroughbred.
note: the Canadian HORSE is an entirely different breed of horse than the Canadian warmblood or Canadian hunter. the Canadian horse can be used for pretty much any discipline and it will exell.
