whats the voltage??? at480 volts the Fla would be 33.75 or 35 amps. at 230 volts it would be 70 amps. i would go with the 480 myself because its less amps.

<<>>

The voltage stated in the question is 600 volts. There are 746 watts in 1 HP so in 20 HP there would be 746 x 20 = 14920 watts. I = W/E. 14920/ 600 = 24.8 amps. The proper formula to use would be I = HP x 746/1.73 x E x %Eff x pf. Without knowing the efficiency and power factor of the motor an accurate answer can not be given. In the trade, a quick rule of thumb is, for 600 volt motor installations, it is 1 amp per horsepower which is close enough to calculate the feeder wire size.

current, Amps= 4 (746)/240(0.8)

=746/60*08

=746/48

= 15.5 amperes.

This is the formula that you are looking for. I = HP x 746/E x %eff x pf.

A standard motor's efficiency between 5 to 100 HP is .84 to .91.

A standard motor's power factor between 10 to 100 HP is .86 to .92.

It depends on the motor's efficiency, and power factor. At least 24A (100% efficient, 1.0 pf).

I searched for a few 7.5hp, 240v singe phase motors and found 30 - 45A.

On 240 v the current can be estimated as 7 amps per horse power, so that is 35 amps for 5 HP.

1 hp = 746 watts

total power = 746 * 7.5 =5595 W

voltage = 240 V

P=V*I

5595=240 *I

I=23.3125 A

Depends on how big the motor is. A stronger motor will draw more amps then a weaker or less efficient motor. For example a wiper motor draws far less then a starter motor.
