The Freebord is designed like a snowboard, but used for the pavement. It started in 1996 in Palo Alto, CA. It mimics a snowboard in the ways that it handles drifts, sliding, and stopping on snow.

Snowboarding Without Snow: Yes, It Can Be Done!?

Snowboarding is obviously a winter sport. That means that countless individuals are left out when the heat gets turned up during the summer months in their areas. However, some pieces of modern snowboarding equipment are beginning to change that. Now there are starting to be ways to continue shredding and boarding, even during the hottest times of the year. In some parts of the world, dry slopes are becoming popular. Dry slopes are simulated ski slopes that can maintain at least some of the shape and feel of snow at warmer temperatures. They are generally made from injection molded plastic tiles that are ultimately coated or misted with fluid to prevent friction build up. By doing so, they are able to produce a relatively accurate ride that can keep a snowboarder going when they otherwise couldn’t. A US firm under the trade name Freebord is marketing a more portable solution. Freebord, which is spelled without the letter a, is an ambitious project that tries to take snowboarding from the snow to the street. The Freebord looks to be a skateboard at first glance, but is a piece of snowboarding equipment that is truly revolutionary. Consisting of a modified skateboard deck that is modeled to have more of the feel of a snowboard, the Freebord actually has foot bindings in the same way that a snowboard usually would. The Freebord is very useful as a piece of innovative snowboarding equipment is the fact that it has a third wheel on each truck. This makes the rider able to perform carve and slide turns. By doing so, they are able to mimic many of the motions of riding powder, and therefore keep in practice when the sun beats down hard. Of course, neither solution is a perfect replica for actually hitting the slopes in the winter. However, this sort of snowboarding equipment will surely be of use for anyone who has to suffer through a period without real snow. By keeping in mind the shortcomings of such systems, they can become useful practice tools for many riders.

Are longboards faster than shortboards?

Why would you want to turn a freebord into a longboard? Anyway, you can turn a freebord into a longboard by removing the baseplate, buy a new longboard baseplate and truck, however, if you find a baseplate with the correct specs for the sizes and rubbers it would be possible to use the freebord trucks. However the trucks are too long for a longboard, unless you like sliding, deep curves and Uncontrollable speed :) Hope i helped :)
