The 1996 Yamaha 1100 has a low oil warning light, in the instrument panel. The motor oil dipstick has a low oil mark.
On a ( 1996 ) Mercury Tracer , the " check engine " warning light is at theBOTTOM of your instrument panel under the right hand side of the fuel gauge ( under the " F " )
Has the instrument light dimmer wheel, beside your headlight switch on the dash been rotated down to the lowest position ? Or, if you mean your warning lamps, I know that on my 1995 there is a 10 amp fuse in location # 11 , in the fuse panel on the driver's end of the dash panel (visible with driver's door open) for the warning lamps.
Oil pressure warning light is red - the service reminder light is amber.

According to the Haynes service manual, the main fuse should be located under the seat. The fuse box with the fuses for the individual circuits, however, is supposed to be... beneath the warning light panel.
the warning lights comes on indicating that the timing belt needs to be changed. even once the timing belt is changed, the warning light will stay on until is it reset.
check your brake light or tail light you probably have a bulb burned out
