URL -- Uniform Resource Locator
Every computer on the Internet is assigned a unique IP (Internet Protocol) address that works like a return address on an envelope or caller ID on a phone. When a request for information is sent across the web, your computer's IP address is attached to that request. The receiving web server then directs the appropriate files to be sent back to the computer that originated the request.
