The L on a gearshift stands for Low Gear.
It means a Low gear range.
gearshift
That would be a standard transmission.
I discovered the answer myself. The car has a lockup system if you don't step on the brake pedal before trying to move the gearshift selector.
there is a button on the gearshift or on 1 of the shifter rods on steering column
if it is an auto check the wiring around the gearshift as this may be telling the car that it is not in park!!
If you turn the engine off the gearshift will move easily. Its the brake light switch. It's a multi-switch that also operates the gearshift lock solenoid.
There is a safety switch located behind your brake pedal arm behind the actual brake pad that evidently has gone bad that must be replaced, I believe average cost is @$20.00 for the part.
There is a button on the end of the gearshift lever...pressing it toggles the "O/D disabled" on and off.
An L reg car Or Motorbike will be 1993
Manual transmissions normally have no display for the current gear setting. You can only tell this by the position of the gearshift lever. Most gearshift lever knobs have markings on the top to remind you which position corresponds to which gear. Unfortunately this knob can come lose and rotate, resulting in confusion.
