Serial port, this one, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:RS-232.jpeg) it is usually coloured green on modern computers.
The RS232 port is a Serial Communications port. It is used to communicate with certain devices. For example, a modem. Or, a controller for a for Computerized Numerical Control.
An RS-232 port was once a standard feature of a personal computer for connections to modems, printers, mice, data storage, un-interruptible power supplies, and other peripheral devices.
The purpose of a RS232 cable is to connect data terminal equipment and data circuit-terminating equipment. RS232 represents a series of standards for suc connections.

A good alternative for a RS 232 would be modern USB ports. The RS 232 is a serial binary single ended data port. This port is common on computers; however, recently this port has been replaced by USB ports.
The "com" ports are computer, serical communications ports (normally RS-232).

RS-232 serial ports, Parallel ports, and PS2 mouse and keyboard ports. These days, all of these functions can be handled by Universal Serial Bus (USB ) connections.

RS-232 serial ports are far slower than USB ports. With very few exceptions, devices that use USB ports would be impractical to use on a serial port.
You need to get a Bluetooth RS-232 dongle, which connects to serial RS-232 port and provides bluetooth connectivity. These are similar to USB bluetooth devices to some extent, but need a power source for the electronics circuitry (as you may be aware that USB ports have 5V power supply but RS-232 standard has no option for power supply on the connector). So Serial port to Bluetooth convertors will have either an inbuilt battery or a power supply connector to feed power.
