Pegasus is a winged divine horse sired by Poseidon, in his role as horse-god, and foaled by the Gorgon Medusa. Pegasus was stabled in Olympus by Zeus and was given the task of carrying Zeus' thunderbolts. Because of his faithful service to Zeus, he was honored with transformation into a constellation. Pegasus helped Perseus to complete his tasks (one of which was to chop off the head of Medusa).
