Its a situation like this:
You and some other guy rob a bank, and can flee. However the Police finds the illegal guns with your fingerprints.
Both of you will get 6 months, because they cannot prove you were in the bank. However the police suggests a deal: You will get only 3 months if you say your friend is the robber.
Your friend will then get 4 Years.
Your Friend has the Same option. If Both tell on the other they will get each 3 Years.
So: The best would be if both shut up. But then if the other decides to sing, you will get 4 Years! And if the other doesn't you will only get 3 months... However if I think like this won't he too? Then it will be better to tell him on so I only get 3 Years. Or can I trust him?
What a Dilemma! One of the solutions is: If you think you will meet him ever again, don't tell, If You don't think so: Sell him out. this is a pragmatic as well as a moralic question.
Two criminals are arrested for a crime and jailed. However, the police doesn't have enough evidence to convict them for the main crime, but they have enough evidence to convict them of a lesser crime. So the police makes a deal with both prisoners. If only one of them confesses and betrays the other, the informant will be freed and the other will serve the full prison sentence for the whole crime. If neither of them confess, then the police will just convict them both of the lesser crime, which would result in a lighter prison sentence than if the criminals were convicted of the whole crime. If both of the confess, then they would both have to serve the full sentence.

Yes and it is called The Mysterious Benedict Society and The Prisoner's Dilemma.
A prisoner's dilemma outcome can most likely be avoided when there is open communication, trust, and cooperation between the parties involved. By working together and being transparent about their intentions and strategies, the parties can strive to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes rather than fall into the trap of individual self-interest.
