The surname of the current royal is Mountbatten-Windsor (hence, the Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, is the granddaughter of the Queen and daughter of her youngest son, Prince Edward). In 1960, just before the birth of Prince Andrew that same year, the Queen drafted up an order saying that her children, grandchildren, and other descendants will carry on this surname. It is a hybrid of Mountbatten (Duke of Edinburgh's surname) as well as the Queen's surname (Windsor). Technically, officially the royals use whatever title they have as a surname (I.e. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie use York as their father Prince Andrew is the Duke of York and Princes William and Harry use Wales as their father is the Prince of Wales and as such has this has this as a title---AKA William Wales, Henry Wales which is what they use in the military that they are currently serving in respectively).

What is Prince William and Harry's surname?

It's complicated. The Queen has stipulated that all her male descendants who do not bear the titular dignity of Prince shall use Mountbatten-Windsor as their surname.Willam and Harry, though, DO "bear the titular dignity of Prince".For these cases, children generally use "Prince X of Y" where X is their given name and Y is their father's territorial designation. For William and Harry, their father is Prince Charles, who is the Prince of Wales, so they were "Prince William of Wales" and "Prince Harry of Wales".This is normally dropped when such children reach adulthood and simply use their title. You need a last name when you might get confused with someone else. The likelihood of, say, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge getting confused with some other Prince William, Duke of Cambridge is pretty small. However: William and Harry were both in the military, and not having a surname in the military is a little awkward. Both of them used "Wales" as their surname in a military context. William (as Duke of Cambridge) now has his own territorial designation; I'm not sure if he's been updated officially to "William Cambridge" in the military or not.

What is the last name of Prince Harry and William?

Although Royals don't tend to use a last name, in the instance of a marriage, for example, Prince William's last name is Mountbatten-Windsor. This is the surname of all descendants of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II (excluding females who marry). The name Mountbatten-Windsor derives from the Royal surname Windsor, decided in 1917 by George V. Before this, the Royal surname was technically Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, but due to anti-German sentiment after WWI, the decision was made to change the royal surname to Windsor. In 1960, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip decided to create a surname for their direct descendants, incorporating the surnames "Windsor" and Prince Philip's previous surname, "Mountbatten." Therefore, Mountbatten-Windsor is the surname of all male (and unmarried female) descendants of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II; this includes Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry. Because Prince Harry and Price William use the title Prince, they do not use the last name Mountbatten-Windsor. They use the surname Wales because they are the sons of the Prince of Wales.
