The first term is 4 years, and if the person is elected again, the second term is also 4 years.

in 1951 the states ratified the 22nd amendment to the constitution, which limited presidents to only two terms (a maximum of 8 years, except in very unusual circumstances), but prior to that, there were no term limits, other than seeking re-election every four years.
