A `jig' is usually some type of device that's been assembled to aid in the construction of another piece of equipment where repetitive work is concerned for the purposes of making the work go faster and if at all possible, easier. An example would be a welding jig, where there is a need for several pieces of the same size to be welded together. The jig would come into use by being designed and constructed as to place the individual parts in their correct positions and in alignment with each other.
