Your serial number indicates that your Smith and Wesson 38 special was made in the Year 1960.
Secret Service SpecialNeat gun but not made by S&W or used by the Secret Service. It was made by Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works of Fitchburg,Mass. The 6 diget number is probably the serial number. CTG refers to the caliber such as 32 S&W cartridge."ctg" being an abbreviation. Made prior to WWII. actually there is a secret service special 32 s&w ctgs my serial #168757 and i have iver ja&cw of fitchburg, mass serial #47536 location of serial #'s of both are the buttend of the handle
44 S&W Special is the caliber, not necessarily the make. If it IS a S&W, the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson will have some information for you. So will S&W Customer Service.
