Assuming that this is the complete serial number (no letter prefix of any kind), assuming it is NOT marked inside the crane area on the frame as a model 36, and assuming it has a flat latch...
If all of the above are true, the serial number range falls in 1953 according the the Standard Catalog of S&W. It would be what is commnly referred to as a Cheif's Special or "Pre-36".
