in the novel the characters depended on the great Tano god for solutions when they had problem. firstly barreness were we saw the great god tano answered koramoa prayer and persistence sacrifices to the god for a child and these made the people believe much in the god without noticing that they were just lesser gods.they never thought of the greater God onyankopon. also we saw another character pokuwaa devoted much of her time and energy performing sacrifices to the god for child bearing and because some of the characters had their prayers answered by the god they others also turned their attention on the god and someone of them was blessed with child whiles other were not blesssed but rather deceived. secondly when the wawa tree was raging with fire the elders had a meeting and their first thought was pacification to the gods whereby every house hold prepared food and took it to the Tano house and ate there having the believe that the god fed through them. also on Akwasidae they believe that no one should visit the stream of which if one had no water in the house the person had to wait for the next day and when Pokuwaa visited the stream on that day she escaped an eagle attack which killed a Hornbill and she brought the Hornbill home and her mom told her it was a taboo because she believed it was the food of the god and she had to returned in back and later performed rites to her daughter by cooking yam for her which she needed to eat all . thirdly last friday of every 6 weeks people visited the Tano house for sacrifices for answers to their problem and items like eggs, sheep and goat etc where brought depending on the sizes of problem each person had moreover when you maltreat a fetish child it likely the god take back their children from you and that was their believe so such children were not maltreated. Also widows dropped their pot the final burial of their husbands and run home without looking their back signifying that the bond they had with the dead person on earth was over and these was the practice every widow practiced. These superstition was so influencing in their lives that they even failed to realised that there was one supreme God only Pokuwaa did by giving up all her sacrifices she had to do and placed all her hopes on God and she ended up in a great result by bearing a child. indeed superstition had a great effect in the lives of the characters in a woman in her prime.
