Ford actually specifies Mercon V ATF, I believe Tremec(who makes the transmissions) suggests Dexron, but there's not much of a difference.. oh and royal purple makes some nice stuff that's dexron equivalent, that should work great too. any of those three should do. just don't use gear oil.

I have this same transmission and have had the same question, especially since I was never sure if it was the same year as the truck it was in but I found that it is.
