The Assyrian Genocide was committed by the Ottoman Turks against the Assyrians during the time of the Armenian and Greek Genocides also commited by the Turks.

750,000 Assyrians died at the hands of the Ottoman Turks, Kurds, and Arabs, just for being Christians.

Where are Assyrians originally from?

Culturally and etymologically different from Arabs, Persians, Turks, and Armenians, the Assyrian people originate from the city of Akkad near Mesopotamia in the 24th century B.C. Like Armenians, the Assyrian people suffered through a genocide at the end of the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century.

What if the Armenian Greek and Assyrian genocide didn't happen How many Armenians Greeks and Assyrians would be alive in Turkey today?

There are two questions here. The first, is how many Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians would there be if the Armenian Genocide, the various Greek Genocides, and the Assyrian genocide did not occur. Of course, all numbers are only guesses, but given that the Armenian Genocide resulted in 1.5 million deaths, the Greek Genocide resulted in 800,000 deaths, and the Assyrian genocide resulted in 300,000 deaths, these are good numbers to start with. Also considering that Greeks and Armenians in the Ottoman Empire had positive population growth rates and their populations have nearly doubled in the last century in areas unaffected by the genocide (such as independent Greece and Russian/Soviet-occupied Armenia), there would be roughly 4.5 million additional Greeks and Armenians. As for Assyrians, it is more questionable as Assyrians did not have consistent positive population growth and did not have any country to protect their ethnic kindred as Greeks and Armenians did. However, it is estimated that the genocide affected half of the living Assyrian population at the time, so the current Assyrian population (1.6 million) should be a rough guess at how many Assyrians have been lost. The second question is how many of them would still live in Turkey. Especially in the case of the Greeks, it is unlikely that they would have stayed in Turkey after Turkish independence. Armenians and Assyrians would likely have fought for increased autonomy in Turkey and been repressed like the Kurds as a result, but many would likely have stayed, being unable to leave. (Russian Armenia was not open to mass immigration like Greece was.) Admittedly, all of this is conjecture, but is based on the historical reactions after the genocides.

Why should the US be interested in the Armenian genocide?

The United States should care about honoring the suffering of people who were butchered for who they were and what they believed, especially since the United States is a country founded by people who fled the Old World specifically because of ethnic and religious persecution -- just like what the Armenian, Pontic Greek, and Assyrian people suffered in the Ottoman-led genocide.Additionally, US Recognition of the genocide may force Turkey to become more introspective about its consistent denial of this unfathomable crime. When was the last genocide?

The word genocide was made when there was a "genocide", Genocide is like a war but MUCH MUCH worse. Its when a nationality kills EVERY person from another nationality. The first genocide was 1915-1918. The Turkish killed 1,500, 000 Armenians when the Armenians were innocent. It was the only genocide in history. Some Armenians survived, like my great grandparents. Lets hope nothing bad to the Armenians. Thanks for reading!
