Windows 95 can be directly upgraded by Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, and Windows 2000. Later versions of Windows (assuming the hardware is suitable) can only be installed with a clean install.
Windows 95 to Windows 98, and then to Windows XP
No. Windows XP does not support rolling back to a previous operating system, nor is it possible to upgrade directly from Windows 95 to Windows XP.
If you have a Microsoft Windows 98 Upgrade CD, you simply put it inside the CD Rom drive and it should launch and proceed to do the upgrade. If you have a Windows 98 Full Installation CD, after it starts running answer to 'upgrade' in stead of a full Windows 98 installation. This will keep all your Windows 95 programms and settings. I hope this help
Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 all support upgrading directly from Windows 95. Your system must meet the requirements in order to upgrade, however.
The Windows Update service is/was available to Windows 95, but there was no specific utility for it; you would have to manually go to the website.
25 June 1998 as an upgrade to Windows 95 with better USB support and more.

Windows 95 was a huge upgrade at it's time, showing what Microsoft were planning to do in the future. Today the operating system can't be used for much.
If the hardware is compatible and you have enough memory you should be able to purchase an "Upgrade" version of XP.
If you have an older Windows 95 system, the best option would be to upgrade to a newer version of Windows. Microsoft no longer supports Windows 95, so it is not recommended that you continue using this operating system. Fortunately, there are many affordable options available for upgrading your computer's operating system. One great website to check out is Affordablekey .com - they offer some of the best prices on software and hardware products in the market today. you cannot upgrade from win95 directly to xp without a fresh install, if you have purchased an upgrade disc, you need windows 98 or newer. If you have purchased a regular install disc, back up your important files, and boot from the install disc, you do this by setting the BIOS (in "setup", before the O.S. starts to load)
Since I know longer have a windows 95 disk I can't say for sure but I think it is around 50M to at most 100M. If you have the disk package it should say or the upgrade screen will probably tell you if you have enough. This is an old system and there is better stuff out there unless you have an old computer you want for some reason.
