Prophetically speaking, biblically... due to the "forty years" punishment of the Israelites wandering until the "carcases" of the elders of that "evil congregation" fell in the wilderness - "forty years" has come to be accepted by many as a "prophetic biblical generation."
"Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you... from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against Me... But your little ones, which ye said would be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised... after the number of days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquitiies, and ye shall know My breach of promise" (Num.14:29-34)
