A mare (female horse of maturity) usually only has one foal at a time. In rare occasions a mare may have twins and it is even more rare for them to survive. In terms of how many foals a mare can produce in her life time that all depends on how often she is bred. The gestation period for a horse is around 11 months. A mare can become pregnant any time after its first cycle - usually around a year or two of age and can keep reproducing as long as she is sound and healthy into her twenties.

A horse can start having babies at about 3-5 years. Typically, a horse has one baby every year of it's life after it's ready to have babies. On very rare occasions do horses have twins. Usually, breeders stop horses from breeding when they turn 20.

If you mean "How many foals can horses have"..... (at one time)

It depends, 99.5% of the time just a single foal is born, but sometimes there are twins!! When there are twins it usually means a lot of trouble.

Most of the time, both foals dies. Other times the mother dies. Sometimes they ALL die.

Usually, the foals are too small, and their hearts die out on them, before they can breathe.

If you have a mare, going to foal twins...... good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully, they'll survive (all of them).

Sometimes, however they all survive, that's what would be notified as a miracle!!!!!!!!!!

Horses typically only have one foal at a time, they can in rare cases have twins or even triplets. A female horse can begin producing offspring as young as a year old and continue up until the day she dies. However it is not recommended to breed young mares or those with serious conformation flaws just because they can reproduce.
