The majority of it was filmed at Revue Studios, which was owned by Universal Studios and rented to Alfred Hitchcock by Paramount. The Main Street set on the Universal lot served as the location of the fictional town of Fairville. Fairville Presbyterian Church was on the Universal backlot, and Fairville Courthouse was Universal Studios' main executive office. The hotel that Marion and Sam are in at the beginning was the Jefferson Hotel, which is now the Barrister Place Building in Phoenix, Arizona. The opening shot of Phoenix was also filmed in Phoenix. The swamp was Falls Lake on the Universal-Revue backlot. The scene of Marion getting stopped by the cop was filmed on the Golden State Freeway, and the other highway shots were filmed on I-99 between Fresno and Bakersfield, California.
