What are the bad effects in changes in matter?

Changes of matter in the environment can be beneficial or harmful.

For example, changes in the soil when it is built up through adding organic matter has a good effect on the soil and growing plants. On the other hand, growing crops year after year without doing anything to restore the soil, depletes it of nutrients, which in turn means that the foods grown in those soils have fewer nutrients.

Another example is water. Clean water is good for fish, animals and humans. Polluted water can bring diseases to them all.

Cutting down forests is another example. Responsibly cutting down selected trees can actually be beneficial to the forest and wildlife. On the other hand, clear-cutting all the trees is deadly to wildlife and causes soil erosion.
