The Silmarillion is a novel about the events of Middle Earth in the First Age, giving us a glimpse of the Second and the early Third Ages. It is like a precedor to The Lord of the Ringsand The Hobbit. This book tells of how the world was created, how Elves and Men came into being, how Feanor created three beautiful jewels, the Silmarils, and how Morgoth, the Black Foe of the World, stole them. The Elves waged war against the thief, at first driven by the desire to regain the jewels, and afterwards more as to avenge their losses and fallen comrades. Some Men were on the side of the Elves; they helped them in battle and in times of peace. Other Men came to Morgoth's side, and fought against the Elves. Sometimes Dwarves fought as well.
Overall, this is a story of the long and slow defeat of the "good side". In the end, hope came from where no one expected it, and the world was saved, and Morgoth's strongholds destroyed. But, as the saying goes, "they won the battle but lost the war". The world will never be the same for anyone.

The Silmarillion
There is no official announcement regarding a Silmarillion movie being in production or coming out in the near future. J.R.R. Tolkien's work, including The Silmarillion, presents complexities in adapting for film due to its vast and intricate mythology.
Presently there is no movie being made based on TheSilmarillion. (Although a number of fans, including myself, continue to work on making a workable script.) Also the Tolkien Estate has show considerable reluctance in giving out the movie rights after The Lord of the Rings films were made.
It is estimated that the race of Men entered Middle-earth around the year 1 of the First Age. J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion" covers this age in detail, including the awakening of Men, their struggles, and their interactions with the other races in Middle-earth.
