The Catholic Church is one religion that has the doctrine Three divine persons in One. The 3 are Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This conveys the belief in the presence and power of The Father in Heaven, Christ on Earth, and Christ's spirit after he died.

Protestants dropped all that and went with a direct path through Jesus Christ.

AnswerIn God there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost (old term for Spirit). Each of the Three Persons possesses the one (numerical) Divine Essence. (De fide).

De Fide is the highest grade of theological certainty and must be believed to be a Christian.

The terms "essence, nature, substance" refer to the Divine "Being" which is the same for the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, while the terms "hypostasis and person" refer to the three owners or bearers of the Divine Being.

The oldest authoritative doctrinal formulation of the Church's belief in the Trinity is the Apostle's Creed, which, in the form of the ancient Roman baptismal symbol, served as the basis of catechumenical instruction and as a baptismal confession of faith since the 2nd century. It is based on the trinitarian formula of baptism.

all of the above is from Ott's Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma, the definitive collection of dogmas of the Church.

Let me try, briefly to make it clear by contrasting human beings. In a human being there is one person, say me, who has two natures: one is the spirit (soul), the other is material (my body). So, I am one person with two natures, you might say that I share myself with my body and my soul. Of course both of those have all of me, if you see what I mean. If you can get that concept, that you can approach understanding the Trinity (NO ONE can understand the Trinity, I'm just trying to give you a working knowledge to get by!). In God, the "sharing" is reversed, I am one person with two natures; God is three persons with one nature. In other words His nature is "God" so there is only one God, but that God is, as an example, manifested in three persons. This is not even a shadow of actually understanding God who is so far beyond any of us that we can never understand, I'm just trying to give you a feel for what we are talking about when we are talking about the "mystery" of the Trinity.

The classical way of understanding the Trinity is to see the Father, who is eternal, and thus can not change, has only One Idea. That One Idea comprises everything that is, or might be, or ever will be. The One Idea is know as The Word, or Jesus, who was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became Man. The Love that exists between the Father and Son is so Real that it is the third Divine Person, The Holy Spirit.

This is not a Biblical teaching but is the attempt of men to define the Godhead. Primarily it is the Catholic Church that has defined the 'Trinity' as a 3 Person Godhead - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

How is the trinity distinct?

The Trinity is distinct in that it refers to the Christian belief that God exists as three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. These three persons are distinct from one another, yet are united in their essence as one God. This concept is unique to Christianity and sets it apart from other monotheistic religions.

What christian belief says that god is made from 3 persons?

You are referring to the doctrine of the Trinity, which says that there are three persons in the one Godhead, each divine, and each equal in glory and honor to each other. To some this appears to be a belief in three Gods, not one, and others will claim that this is not taught in Christianity, but most Christians at most times and in most places have held this belief - that's simply a historical fact.
