I recommend you buy a short haired one because you don't have to cut the hair or brush it. In the pet shop ask the pet shop guy if you can hold the guinea pig to see if it's shy. If it is DON'T buy it. My first guinea pig was very shy and I was never able to tame her no matter what I tried. Good Luck!
