Mario Galaxy has more levels, more of a variety of levels, more creativety and imagination, is longer, has a massive "cool" factor (levels, secret levels, powerups, enemies) but has a terrible 2-player mode, small storyline, complex controls and becomes boring rather quickly.
NSMBW has a great 4-player mode, has a wide variety of bosses, has simple controls and is more original but has less levels, less variety of levels and a more "been-there-done-that" factor from the ds version and throughout the game.
I personally think that Mario galaxy is better because of the creativity and range of levels.
