Rootstock and scion refer to grafted plants and trees. The rootstock is the bottom half that goes into the ground; the half that will lay roots. The scion is part of a different plant that is going to be grafted onto the rootstock. Grafted plants generally take on certain characteristics of the rootstock plant, but will physically still be the scion plant. An example of this can be seen in walnut trees. The black walnut tree is a sturdier and disease-resistant, making it a great rootstock plant. The English walnut tree, however, produces tastier walnuts. Therefore, the English walnut tree is grafted on top of the black walnut tree creating a sturdier and more disease-resistant walnut tree.
No, thanks.
It is a rare walnut found in the Sahara desert. Many scientists believe that the plant has already extinct. But some years ago some scientists discovered it again. Its plant is extremely special , because it has roots that are about 3meters long. It uses the roots to reach the water deep under the sand. Sadly the "desert walnut" is poisonous and cannot be eaten. I hope I helped you!!! :)

I'm a lifelong gardener, and I can answer this for you with assurance: The secret is, DON'T.The juglone naturally released by black walnut roots will kill tomato plants in a matter of days.Never plant tomatoes closer than twice the dripline distance from a black walnut.
Genus Juglans. There are many different species in this genus; you'd have to be more specific to identify which one you mean. The English walnut tree is Juglans regia. Black walnuts comprise a lot of different species, but probably the most common in the US is Juglans nigra, the Eastern Black Walnut. The Small Black Walnut in Texas is Juglans microcarpa, and a species is native to California as well (Juglans californica).
