Depends on what kind of subs your getting because for your subs to sound properly and give you the best bass, there needs to be sufficient enough space behind the sub to allow the sub to displace air and thus create BASS!!.. The amount of space you need depends on what size of sub you have.. For example you need more space for a 12 inch sub then you do for a 10 inch sub.. Just look up specs for your subwoofer on google and you will see how much mounting depth it needs and buy a box that allows that space

dont spend all that extra money on 2-way/3-way speakers. All you need to get a real good sounding system is a CD player which most have an internal amp. Use that amp to drive mid range & high's. Buy the best set of component speakers you can afford to spend component system will consist of a mid range speaker like 6.5 or 5.5 inch with crossovers and separate tweeters then you will need a amp to drive a subwoofer. All you really need is a single 10 inch sub or 12 inch sub. The box for the sub depends on the music you listen to. If your into ground poundin' bass the a ported box or bandpass box. If it is rock or country a sealed box would suit you best. But unless you compete in Db. drags or SQ. audio completions you really dont need all the other extra stuff.
