Aside from baking a cake, you can modify it to make cookies and other baked goods. Sometimes the recipes are right on the box.

I think 1 will do. 2 if you want a really big, puffy cake, but it might overflow. I always make cakes from scratch. They taste much better. I hate box cakes. People who use box recipes are lazy. Just get a cookbook. ;-)

Generally, when you think of easy cake recipes, you're picturing ones that come in a box. If you are going to use these types of recipes, you absolutely need to make sure they are at least decent in nutritional value. The same rule applies frosting. Making your own is healthier, but it is not always easier. However, frosting does not take terribly long to make, so you should at least look into some of the recipes. Choose recipes that do not use a lot of sugar and that replace eggs with egg whites. When the cake is ready, do not overdo the eating.

If by best you mean easiest - use a commercial box mix. If by best you mean something unique - try recipes in cookbooks. It does help to have a stand mixer as it saves a lot of work and results in a more consistent and smooth batter than handheld mixers or mixing by hand.
