I have to bleach mine first because I am naturally a brunette. I bleach it then use L'OREAL Crystalline Blond as a toner to make it an ashy blond. I buy bleach, developer and toner at Sallys Beauty Supply.

I wouldn't suggest going from a dark color to a platinum but if you insist on doing it you will likely have to bleach it once first if not a second time to be able to get the tone you want first. Then you will have to dye it to the color you want (unsure on what type of dye you will want to use but I will tell you now to not use any ion ones since their dye is much darker than what it is supposed to be for some reason). Definitely want to avoid using box dye since it is such a dramatic change that it may turn your hair different colors if you don't bleach it. You'll also probably want to consider using a toner if you have a warm dark color.

to dye your hair lighter than a darker color you already have, you will have to bleach it first. And then i would say to use ION for the dye

Try using lemon juice, it'll bleach it slightly in the sun.
